BOISE -- A former state prison guard and Boise State University football player has pleaded guilty to burglary.

Timothy Gilligan, 28, was originally charged with two counts of having sexual contact with a female prison inmate in 2007. Gilligan pleaded guilty to the lesser burglary charge Tuesday.

Gilligan admitted to twice entering the Idaho Maximum Security Institution with the intent of having sexual contact with the female inmate involved in a worker program at the facility.

He could face up to 10 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 20.

Gilligan played wide receiver for the Broncos between 2000 and 2003. He also played briefly in the Canadian Football League.
