CUSTER COUNTY -- A Reno man who broke his leg while climbing in the White Cloud Mountains was rescued Monday.
Sixty-two-year-old Dennis Dombroshi was hiking Sunday near Washington Lake with his friend, Gary McMahon, when he lost his footing in a scree chute. Dombroshi tumbled about 40 feet to the ground, breaking his leg and badly cutting and bruising his body.
McMahon, a retired Army flight medic, treated the injured man with first aid before beginning the two-hour trek out to get help.
Custer County Search and Rescue used an air ambulance from Saint Luke's to get rescuers to the spot where Dombroshi fell. They reached him at about 3 a.m.Once he was stabilized, an Idaho Air National Guard helicopter lifted him to safety.
Volunteers with Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue also helped get the injured man to safety.
Dombroshi was flown to Boise for treatment, and is listed in stable condition at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
