A woman and a 13-year-old girl were both sprayed in the face during attempted abductions in Bellingham Friday near Bellis Fair Mall. Police said the description of the attacker was similar in both cases.

The first attack happened around 8:20 a.m. Friday in the 700 block of West Bakerview Road. Police said the 13-year-old girl told them she was waiting for the bus when a man approached her and told her to go with him. When she refused, the man allegedly punched her in the face and sprayed her in the eyes with an unknown substance.

The girl ran home to her parents. The attacker did not follow.

The victim was checked out at the hospital, but had no apparent injuries.

The second attack happened around 7:10 p.m. in the 4100 block of Aldrich Road, less than a half-mile from the first attack. Police said a 24-year-old woman told them she was walking alone when a man came up from behind, grabbed her arm and then sprayed her in the eyes with an unknown substance. He told her to go with him, but she refused and yelled. The attacker ran away.

The victim was checked out by medics.

The attacker in both cases is described as white, in his 20 s, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build. He had lighter-colored facial hair and dark-rimmed glasses. He wore blue jeans and a dark-colored jacket.
