Summer is right around the corner. And if you're planning a family vacation, you know it can really add up, especially with all the bag fees most airlines charge.
Checking a bag can cost you between $15 and $25 each way. And any bag weighing more than 50 pounds usually costs an extra $50. But if you pack just right, you can save yourself time and money.
Portland travel expert Marcia Miller says taking too much stuff is stressful because you have to keep up with all the bags and the kids! She says just bring the essentials. And if you can get one of those space saver bags, they really help.
Here are some things to think about ahead of your big trip:
*Book non-stop flights
*Fly early or late when kids are more likely to sleep
*Reserve the bulkhead section at the front of the plane
*Bring a light weight umbrella stroller and check it at the gate
*You can also check car seats
*Pack a carry-on with snacks, toys, books, and a portable dvd player
