The Washington State Patrol is warning Snohomish County drivers that a memorial procession for fallen trooper Sean O Connell will impact the mid-day commute Thursday.
O Connell died Friday after he was hit by a truck in Conway along the detour route for the I-5 bridge collapse in Skagit County.
A procession of 500 police vehicles headed to the memorial is expected to leave just after 11 a.m. from the Smokey Point Rest Stop on southbound Interstate 5 near Exit 207. It will leave I-5 at Everett Avenue (Exit 194) then go to Comcast Arena where the ceremony will be held.
The Smokey Point Rest Area on southbound I-5 is closed until 1 p.m. Thursday to gather vehicles for the procession.
Public wishing to view the motorcade can do so from these locations:
- The sidewalks of any overpass between Smokey Point and downtown Everett. Please do not park private vehicles on the overpasses
- 34th Avenue NE north of 116th, which faces the freeway;
- Along Everett Avenue in Everett as the motorcade exits the freeway.
The public is allowed to attend the memorial. Parking will be available at the 10th Street Boat Launch Parking Lot at 10th Street and W. Marine View Drive.
