PORTLAND Police found a woman dead inside a home after talking down a suicidal man in Northeast Portland early Saturday morning.
At 5:38 a.m., police responded to a home in the 4200 block of Northeast Campaign Street after hearing reports of an armed suicidal man, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.
After failing to contact anyone in the home, officers left.
But two hours later, police got a 9-1-1 call from a man in the home who said he was injured and there was a gun in the house, Simpson said.
Officers talked the 56-year-old man into coming out of the house and took him into custody. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Inside the home, police found a 52-year-old woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound, Simpson said.
Detectives were investigating at the scene and reportedly recovered a gun.
Northeast 42nd Avenue from Northeast Prescott to Skidmore streets is blocked off.
