An airship was being called in to drop fire retardant on a wildfire near Mount Vernon.

The Washington State Department of Transportation and a witness said the fire was burning along State Route 538 near State Route 9, about four miles east of Interstate 5. It's on the north face of a formation known as Big Rock, a popular area for hikers.

The size and cause of the fire was not immediately reported.

The airship was expected between 8:30 and 9 a.m. When it happens, traffic was expected to be stopped on northbound SR 9 at Big Lake Road and southbound SR 9 at Big Rock Roundabout.
