PORTLAND -- The daughter of a pedestrian hit and killed Thursday morning on a busy Southeast Portland street is pleading for help finding the driver.
Tommy Zane Gann, 56 (pictured), was struck about 5:40 a.m. at Southeast Holgate Street and 14th Avenue, according to Portland police. Gann was pronounced dead soon after he arrived at a nearby hospital.
The vehicle left the scene of the crash.
This person could have stayed and I would have understood. Maybe it was an accident, said Gann's daughter, Georgia Weathers. But it stopped being an accident when they drove away, and they ve had hours now to come forward.
The suspect vehicle, a full-size white box van with roof racks, was last seen headed westbound on Holgate, police said. The van should have significant front-end damage, including broken glass. The van had no side windows.
Gann had been crossing Holgate diagonally from south to north when he was struck, police said.
Neighbor Devyn Julkowski heard the crash and hurried outside.
I was in bed and heard a loud thud this morning, Julkowski said. My mom rushed out and people were outside looking, and there was a lot of commotion. She got a blanket and covered the guy.
Weathers said she rushed to the hospital as soon as she found out her father was hurt, but she didn't get a chance to say goodbye.
Anyone with information on the hit-and-run was asked to call Portland police.
