SEATTLE -- A 19-year-old woman spotted a 25-foot basking shark in Puget Sound.
Grace Coale of Edmonds was crabbing with her dad when she saw a 3-foot fin headed toward their boat Saturday near Meadowdale Wharf.
Coale told The Seattle Times she was excited, not scared, when the shark approached. She took photos that were identified by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration fishery biologist Heidi Dewar as a basking shark.
Dewar says basking sharks were once killed by salmon fishermen and now there are a limited number in Puget Sound.
