BEND, Ore. Two fast-moving forest fires burning around 300 acres north of Bend caused homes to be evacuated Saturday as firefighters rushed in to fight the blazes.

KTVZ reports a fire lookout called in the fires around 12:45 p.m. They were burning in open land around six miles northwest of Bend and 10 miles southeast of Sisters.

The Saddleback area was evacuated Saturday afternoon. Several roads were also closed due to the fire.

The Cascade Middle School has been designated as an emergency shelter coordinated by the local Red Cross, said Captain Shane Nelson of the Deschutes County Sheriff s Office. The Deschutes County Fairgrounds has been designated as a livestock shelter for those needing a place to keep livestock.
