BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Two Beaverton parents are in jail after making their daughters live in a recreational vehicle full of garbage and human waste.

Marcelino Navarro, 34, and Sarah Clark, 33, told police they had been living in the filthy RV for two years with the girls, now 7 and 12 years old.

In March, officers first looked into complaints about the RV, parked near Southwest Rose Lane and Southwest Farmington Road. They finally made contact with the family on April 12, according to a police report.

The officer who filed the report said the parents seemed to have been using meth and the girls looked like they had not bathed in quite some time.

He said there were full garbage bags on both sides of the camper and he was overcome with the stench of rotting food and feces, so strong that it immediately hurt his lungs and irritated his skin.

The girls bed was cluttered with high piles of trash and was barely big enough to hold both of them, the officer said. It was separated from the parents room by a blanket. The bathroom was just a few feet away.

I opened the bathroom and observed that it was filled with human waste, the officer said. There was about one inch of water and human feces on the floor and there were bags and bottles of human waste.

Navarro and Clark said the girls had not been to school for months, because they had not had their shots and recently had lice, according to the report. They also said it had been a month since the girls had showered.

The parents admitted using heroin and methamphetamine. Officers at the scene contacted the Department of Human Services and called one of the girls uncles to come pick them up.

Navarro and Clark were indicted by a grand jury Wednesday on six counts each of first-degree criminal mistreatment, for withholding necessary and adequate food, physical care and/or medical attention from the girls.

Their next court appearance was scheduled for June 9.

Their daughters are staying with relatives and DHS is investigating.
