DESMOINES, Wash. -- Firefighters had to take a defensive stance against a two-alarm apartment fire in Des Moines Monday morning.

One of the people in the 18 unit Sea Fox Apartments had to jump to safety from a balcony. Nobody was hurt.

The fire was first reported around 3:30 a.m. South King Fire and Rescue said the fire quickly spread to the attic and caused the roof to collapse in several parts of the building.

The American Red Cross is assisting those who are displaced.

The cause of the fireis under investigation.

A fire alarm system was installed last year.
