TWIN FALLS, Idaho -- Police in Twin Falls are investigating a day care after an 18-month-old girl walked away from the house and was nearly hit by a car.

The Times-News reports a woman called police shortly after noon on Wednesday to report she almost hit a girl walking in the street. The woman went to a few houses trying to find the girl's family and was directed to Miss Dierdre's Day Care.

Dierdre Hamann says she was outside talking with a plumber when an employee told her the little girl had gotten out. She says an older child took the girl outside on the back porch, but forgot something and went back inside, leaving the toddler alone.

The child's mother, Julia Brown, says her children have a new day care provider.
