RATHDRUM, Idaho-- Spring started with strong wind gusts ripping through the region on Wednesday.

Experts at the National Weather Service said estimated that wind gusts reached speeds of 55 to 60 miles per hour during the storm.

The storm left a trail of damage in Rathdrum near the 11,000 block of Chase Road. One homeowner told KREM 2 News that he was in his basement when he heard the storm. Robert Conolley described the winds as a loud and violent. He said the storm only lasted about 30 seconds.

It was like a super cell, got really dark, huge gust of wind, massive hail and next you know, said Conolley, I heard a lot of loud pops and I ran outside and all the huge trees were already down.

Conolley walked outside and was shocked by the damage. Trees toppled onto his barn, boat, truck and trailer. He estimated that the storm destroyed about 40 trees. Neighbors helped Conolley clear trees out of his driveway,
