PORTLAND There has been a rash of hit-and-run accidents involving cars and pedestrians around the Portland area and now police are looking for another driver who hit someone and left the scene.

Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, a driver of a dark-colored SUV or truck hit a woman in Portland on Southeast 68th Avenue and Southeast Division Street.

Police said the driver never slowed down after hitting the woman crossing eastbound lanes of Southeast Division Street.

The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but she is expected to survive.

It's not that pedestrians are always right or drivers are always wrong; there's a mutual responsibility, especially with the weather we have here and the way that the light changes in the evening. It s really smart to dress appropriately for the weather, not just to stay dry and warm but to be visible, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland Police.

Officers checked the area but never found any vehicles matching the suspected car s description. Anyone with information was asked to call Portland police.
