This Friday marks 50 years since a devastating storm snuck up on the Northwest, with winds as strong as a Category 3 hurricane. That's gusts of 150 mph that pummeled Puget Sound, destroying homes and leaving the region without power.

Chief Meteorologist Jeff Renner recently talked with University of Washington's Cliff Mass about the science that powers KING 5's exclusive FutureCast technology. During that conversation, they marveled at how forecasters missed the mark, completely failing to predict The Columbus Day Storm of 1962.
