STANLEY -- Residents in Stanley watched a huge plume of smoke rise up from the Banner Summit Fire Wednesday.

Fire crews are making good progress on containing the fire, but it has grown to about 2,077 acres.

A few nearby campgrounds have been outfitted with a watering system to help keep them safe.

A red flag warning is in effect for the area. Those conditions will present a challenge for fire crews Thursday as they work to contain the blaze, and prevent flare-ups.

A pilot car is being used to direct traffic on Highway 21.
