YAKIMA, Wash. -- Firefighters quickly rescued a man suspended from the top of a flagpole. The man was painting the top of the 30-foot flagpole which stands on top of the 3-story William O. Douglas federal building. The man says he was became light-headed and lost his balance, then suddenly found himself upside down, clinging to a rope.

Yakima firefighters arrived on scene within 3 minutes and began rescue efforts. The man told firefighters he was near to letting go if they hadn't arrived so quickly. Firefighters retrieved the man from the pole within 5 minutes and transported him to a nearby hospital.
