BOISE - Zoo Boise welcomed two new additions with the birth of a pair of red panda cubs this month.

The female cubs were born June 6 to parents Dolly and Winston. The mother and father were matched as part of a conservation effort by the Red Panda Species Survival Program.

The cubs have spent the past few weeks in the den with their mother, but will soon begin to emerge and explore their environment. Visitors will be able to see the babies as they venture out into the exhibit, zoo officials say.

Veterinarians say the cubs are healthy, and Dolly is doing well in caring for them. She gave birth to her first cub last year. The zoo staff is giving her as much space as possible to avoid stressing her or her new young.

The cubs have not yet been named.
