MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- The victim of a violent kidnapping in Milwaukie on Monday managed to escape, but the suspect has not been caught, police said.

Officers were first dispatched at 9:30 p.m. to the the report that a driver had hit a pedestrian on Oatfield Road, said Lt. Robert Wurpes of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

But investigators soon found out the victim had actually been kidnapped.

Just minutes earlier, the victim had reportedly been at her place of employment on Hwy 99, Wurpes said. While she was working alone, the suspect walked into the business, physically assaulted her, and forced her outside and into what is described as a purple-colored minivan.

The victim jumped out of the moving vehicle and was seriously injured. She was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The suspect was described as a 50-year-old man with a full head of gray hair and possibly a goatee or beard. He was wearing wire-rimmed glasses, dark pants and a navy blue hooded jacket, Wurpes said.

Anyone with information about the kidnapping is asked to call the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office's confidential tip line at 503-723-4949, or submit a tip here.

Stranger-on-stranger abductions are extremely rare, and detectives are taking this case very seriously, Wurpes added. It is an open and ongoing investigation.
