It's an issue often kept under wraps.

But now the University of Washington is launching a new suicide prevention program called Forefront.

Dr. Jennifer Stuber from UW stopped by to speak with NWCN's Shaniqua Manning in advance of World Suicide Prevention Day on Tuesday. Nearly one million people worldwide die by suicide each year: equaling one death by suicide every 40 seconds. That exceeds the number of deaths due to homicide and war combined.

if you or someone you know shows any of these warning signs:

talking about wanting to die or to kill oneself.
looking for a way to kill oneself, such as searching online or buying a gun.
talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live.
talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain.
talking about being a burden to others.
increasing the use of alcohol or drugs.
acting anxious or agitated; behaving recklessly.
sleeping too little or too much.
withdrawing or feeling isolated.
showing rage or talking about seeking revenge.
displaying extreme mood swings.
