SANDY, Ore. -- Clackamas County rescue crews were sent to help find a fisherman who a witness said was swept into the Sandy river Monday morning.

Two men were fishing on the Sandy River near SEMarmot Road when a 19-year-old Milwaukie man wearing hip waders fell and was washed downstream around 10 a.m., deputies said.

The temperature of the river was around 40 degrees at the time.

Crews considered it a rescue mission, but acknowledged someone surviving the frigid water would be very difficult.

It will shock you to a point to where it will seize your muscles, Lt. James Rhoads said. Even if you re in a very accomplished swimmer, in these conditions it makes it near impossible to stay afloat ... very dangerous.
