Firefighters battling a house fire in Newcastle on Saturday afternoon were ordered to evacuate when the structure became unsafe and the roof collapsed.

The homeowner was not at home when the fire started at about 12:20 p.m. in the roof of the home in the 8300 Block of 128th Ave. SE.

The fire spread to the attic and a portion of the roof collapsed. Firefigters evacuated the home.

Fire spread to a nearby home and it spread to the attic before it was knocked down by firefighters.

A family of five was in the second home at the time of the first fire and had evacuated their home.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Bellevue, Eastside, Renton and Mercer Island firefighters worked the fire.
