PORTLAND Damian Lillard says it was the biggest shot of his career so far.
Lillard made an unbelievable 3-point shot Friday in Game 6 against the Houston Rockets in the last nine-tenths of a second to win Round 1 of the playoffs.
I m sure there s been a lot of huge shots in Trail Blazers history. But it s definitely the biggest shot of my history with the Trail Blazers, Lillard said.
On Sunday, in an exclusive interview, Lillard spoke to KGW s Joe Donlon about how he prepared for the shot, playing in Rip City, and how hard he s worked to get where he is today.
I worked hard to put myself in this position, he said. I put in a lot of time to become this...having to prove myself, it lights a fire under me.
Donlon also asked Lillard about his game-day facial expressions that he s become well-known for.
Everybody in my family does that. It s a mean mug like, I was ready for this. I ve been doing the same thing since I was younger. It s that attitude, that confidence, he said.
But Lillard was all smiles when Donlon played a video he took on his iPad of the last-second shot.
That s crazy, Lillard said. I was just watching the reaction of my coaches and everyone on my team.
Just to know that just to see how bad they wanted that I think that shows how much we wanted to win the game and we wanted to get it done, he said.
