STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. Authorities found more than one dozen dead dogs at a Stevens County property during a gruesome animal abuse investigation.

The Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary said on February 14, a Stevens County Deputy was called out for a medical call on Highway 291 in Ford, Washington.

The deputy found 39 dogs living in wretched conditions inside the shed of two sisters who are in their 70s and 80s. The deputy also found more than a dozen dogs that were deceased.

About 21 Pomeranians were rescued from the home.

It is not clear if it was a puppy mill.

The rescued dogs are at the Spokane Humane Society being nursed back to health.
