ST. MARIES, Idaho -- While cougar sightings may be rare in the town of Saint Maries, the reported appearance of one of the animals near Heyburn Elementary was enough to force school officials to cancel outdoor recess and practices at the school of around 300 students.

Josephe Kren is the superintendent of the St. Maries School District.Kren said the cancellations would continue through the week until the cougar was caught.

As an extra precaution, adults are being kept with students at all times as they load onto buses outside the school.

So far, no attacks have been reported, and the cougar hasn't been spotted by authorities.
