VANCOUVER -- A Vancouver homeowner was arrested Tuesday, after a suspected prowler was shot and killed early Tuesday morning, police said.

Sean Doucette, 27, was arrested on second-degree murder charges for allegedly shooting the suspected prowler.

The incident began around 4 a.m., when dispatchers said they got a 911 call about a prowler near Northeast 33rd Street and 148th Place.

Minutes later, another call came into dispatch reporting that the prowler had been shot, said Kim Kapp with the Vancouver Police Department.

Officers arrived to find a man dead in the street.

I couldn t sleep and it was four in the morning... I heard 'pop, pop, pop, pop!' - Four shots, just really quick, one after another, neighbor Jason Crevar said.

I guess, from what my dad told me, he heard the homeowner saying, 'You know, I don t know. I don t care what you have to say. The cops are on their way.' He was being really calm about it. From what I ve heard, it [the shooting] was in self defense, said neighbor Katie Hill.

The medical examiner's office was working to identify the man who was shot. Investigators said he was not carrying an ID.

Doucette was being held without bail in the Clark County Jail and his first court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday.
