PORTLAND -- An 18-year-old looking to protect his mother shot and killed her estranged husband before the man could harm her, police said.
It happened early Saturday morning along the 2700 block of Saratoga Street in the Northeast section of Portland.
Scott Jason Baker, 33, had showed up at the house of Daryl Ray Robertson looking for Robertson's mother who had married Baker. Police said Baker and his wife had been arguing and not living together.
According to police, when Baker arrived, he threatened to shoot his wife and her son. Before he had a chance to do so, Robertson fired one shot from a shotgun, striking Baker, killing him.
Police said witnesses at the scene corroborated that version of events.
Portland Police Homicide Detectives will forward this case to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.
