SPOKANE, Wash. -- The man accused of stabbing another man to death at the STA Plaza was sentenced to 28 years in prison Tuesday.

Donald Phillips, 40, had entered a guilty plea.

Witnesses said Sean Oie, 49, was looking at the bus schedule June 7 when Phillips came up and stabbed him in the chest. Phillips told KREM 2 News he killed the man because Oie was out committing crimes.

Police said Phillips had an extensive and violent criminal history. He was also wanted on a felony Department of Corrections warrant.

Phillips spoke at his sentencing Tuesday, taking responsibility for the brutal crime.
