NEWPORT, Ore. -- Oregon State Police are investigating a deadly crash off Highway 101 where an SUV went over the cliff about 3 miles south of Depoe Bay.

A witness reported seeing a vehicle drive off Highway 101, near milepost 130, through a wide turnout and go off a cliff, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police. The vehicle was spotted resting over a hundred feet below on rocks near the surf line.

Driver Adriana Star Ruiz, 23, of Lincoln City, died at the scene. A helicopter crew hoisted her body out of the wreckage.

Witnesses told police Ruiz was speeding and passed another vehicle before her Saturn Vue veered off the highway at a curve and plunged over the cliff.
