PORTLAND -- The FBI is asking for the public's help in identifying and locating a man, referred to as John Doe 27, suspected of sexual exploitation of a child.
No details link the suspect to a specific state or region, so the FBI is reaching out around the country for help, including in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children first recorded photos and video of the unknown man engaging in sexually explicit activities with a child last April. The photos and video are still circulating a number of child pornography forums online, according to the FBI.
John Doe 27 appears to be a Caucasian male in his late 40 or 50s, with dark hair and eyes.
The FBI has enhanced a few photos of John Doe 27 and believe several clues may help in identifying the man. Images show a distinct plaid chair, a bald spot on the man's head and a ring on his right ring finger.
Based on the audio, the suspect may be called Jimmy.
If identifying the man -- who could be anywhere -- sounds likes a long shot, it's worked before.
Last fall, federal investigators released a picture of a woman known as only Jane Doe in connection with a child pornography case.
The tips poured in and police eventually found her and her husband in Salem.
Detective Erin Schweitzer investigates Internet crimes against children. He was not involved in either of these cases, but said when agencies release photos, it s often because they've exhausted their leads.
You know that they ve been working on this quiet a bit by the time they get to this point, he said. So anybody who has anything, as far as information in regards to this case, or any case, is encouraged to call.
Anyone with information on this most recent John Doe case was asked to contact the FBI online or on their toll free tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
