BOISE -- Boise firefighters saved a hot dog while making a medical call for its elderly owner.

Firefighters responded to find an elderly woman had passed away in her apartment in northwest Boise. Meanwhile, her pug dog had been without water for several days, outside in hot temperatures.

Authorities said the dog, named 'Berny,' seemed to be gasping for air and convulsing, so they administered oxygen and started him on an IV.

Animal control was called and he was taken to the Idaho Humane Society. The veterinarian at the humane society and family of the owner believe Berny is going to be okay.
