Portland students win $100K math award
PORTLAND -- Two juniors from Oregon Episcopal School won the team competition of the annual Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, splitting a $100,000 prize.
Akash Krishnan and Matthew Fernandez developed a computer algorithm to more detect emotion in the human voice to win the country's premier research competition for high school students.

The awards were presented this week at George Washington University.
The winner in the individual category was Benjamin Clark, 15, a senior at Penn Manor High School in Millersville, Pennsylvania, for advancing research on how stars are born.
