PORTLAND Rescue crews have stopped their search for a man presumed drowned in the Willamette River Saturday night.

Around 8 p.m., a man and woman were trying to swim across the Willamette River near Ross Island, said Lt. Rich Chatman with Portland Fire & Rescue.

A boater heard cries for help and tried to help. He found the woman and helped her into his boat but the man was not found.

After a 90 minute search, crews determined the man was submerged. The search was turned over to a Multnomah County Dive Team.
