GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. A search resumed Monday morning for a climber from Salem overdue after a Saturday attempt to summit Mount Hood.

The 58-year-old man was expected back Saturday after climbing the Leuthold Couloir that snakes up the west side of the mountain.

Family members notified the Clackamas County Sheriff s Office at 9 p.m. Saturday evening that he was overdue. He had been scheduled to be off the mountain at 3 p.m., said Deputy Nate Thompson.

Searchers headed out at first light Sunday and reached the summit via the Leuthold route but could not find the climber.

His name was not released, but officials said he is an experienced climber who had climbed the route before. His vehicle was in the Timberline parking lot and he had registered for the climb.

The search was postponed Sunday after white-out conditions made searching nearly impossible.
