A North Bend home was the target of two home invasions in a 12 hour span, with the second one ending with the intruder being stabbed and killed by one of the homeowners Monday morning.

King County Sheriff s Office spokesperson Sgt. Cindi West said the first intrusion happened around 2 p.m. Sunday. A man came in through the back door of the home. A woman, her 7-month-old baby and her mother were inside.

The intruder allegedly punched the mother and injured her, took some money and left.

Deputies used dogs to search the area for several hours, but didn t find the intruder.

At about 1:45 a.m. Monday, the male homeowner heard his dogs barking. When he went to let his dogs out, he was confronted by a stranger inside the home. The two got into a fight, joined in by the homeowner s wife.

At some point, one of the two homeowners stabbed and killed the suspect, said West.

You have to do what you have to do to protect your loved ones, said neighbor Steven Vadjinia. Iwould have done the same thing.

You have to protect yourself. Better them than you, said neighbor Linda Elsner.

Deputies believe it was the same man in both home invasions, but do not know his identity yet.

The husband was transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released. While no information was shared about his injuries, deputies said they wouldn't be surprised if he sustained some injuries because it was quite a battle.
