SPOKANE-- A man died after spending almost an hour submerged in the Spokane River Saturday afternoon.

Crews respondedto the SandiferBridgearound 1:00 p.m. near West Riverside Avenue and West Clarke Avenue for a water rescue.

The fire department had to use a chainsaw to free the man's body, which was entangled in branches under the bridge.

Paramedics transported the victim to Deaconess once he was free. He was declared dead at the hospital.
