PORTLAND - Detectives are investigating a report of a sexual assault on a popular hiking trail in the Columbia Gorge.

The unidentified woman told police she was sexually assaulted while hiking in the Oneonta Gorge east of Troutdale near Bridal Veil Falls on Sunday afternoon.

Detectives said the victim could not provide a description of her attacker. Her husband told KGW the attacker snuck up behind her and then there was a violent struggle. He said she was also slashed in the neck and leg.

Investigators were hoping to talk with anyone who was in the area between 2 and 4 p.m. last Sunday.

Police said they believe this was a stranger-to-stranger assault and an isolated incident.
