BOISE -- The Idaho Humane Society received 24 small breed dogs from an overwhelmed breeder Thursday.

Most of the dogs are miniature dachshunds. The dogs were in poor physical health and living in less than ideal conditions in La Grande, Oregon.

A concerned citizen from Boise alerted the Idaho Humane Society to the situation when she visited the breeder to purchase a puppy.

The Idaho Humane Society will assess their medical needs before putting the dogs up for adoption next week.
