SPOKANE - The attorney for Ferris boy's basketball coach Don Van Lierop says the girl who accused the coach of rape fabricated the story.

Van Lierop's attorney and the girl's attorney issued a joint statement stating the story was a hoax.

The statement acknowledged that "no inappropriate contact by Coach Van Lierop has occurred."

The statment went on to say "The family apologizes to Coach Van Lierop and his family, and supports his immediate reinstatement to his teaching and coaching duties."

The Spokane School District said Van Lierop can go back to teaching and coaching, effective immediately.

The girl is currently undergoing counseling, according to attorneys.
