Kitsap Co. teens in trouble for cell phone photos

SILVERDALE, Wash. - Authorities say a 13-year-old girl sent nude pictures of herself to two 14-year-old boys from Ridgetop Jr. High.
Students say those pictures were forwarded to others across the school.
“One kid got them from a girl and then he started sending them around and some of my friends were getting them too and they were going around the school,” said "Jake."
School officials heard about the photos, confiscated at least one cell phone and called the police.
The boys who received the pictures and showed them to others could now be charged with distributing child pornography, depending on how explicit the photos are.
It's an increasingly common occurrence as the perfect storm of cell phones, puberty and adolescent cluelessness converge.
Teen Disney Channel sensation Vanessa Hudgens caught in a scandal this year when a nude cell phone picture she sent ended up on the Internet.
“Actually it's really common. I've had people send pictures to my phone and I'm like why would I want these? They're all over the place,” said "Zoe."
Meantime, police are telling parents to talk with their kids about the dangers of taking and receiving such pictures.
A moment's poor judgment turned into ruined reputations, criminal repercussions and beyond.
“In a matter of minutes it could be transmitted around the world and there could be pedophiles out there, sexual predators who end up receiving that message and the next thing you know they may come looking for you,” said Scott Wilson, Kitsap Co. Sheriff's Dept.
We want to make clear that no one has been arrested in this incident but the case is being forwarded to the Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office, who will decide if any charges will be filed.
