AUBURN, Wash. - A homeowner was being treated for possible smoke inhalation early Friday morning after a two-alarm fire burned through part of his home. Two other people, the man's wife and son, were in the house but were not injured.
The fire began at about 3 a.m. at the house in the 18000 block of SE 327th Place in unincorporated Auburn. The exclusive neighborhood is called Golden Ridge.
George Payne, the son, told KING5 News he was awake at the time when he heard an explosion in the garage. He awoke his parents. Payne's father drove a car and a motor home away from the structure. Both vehicles were damaged by the heat. A third car was destroyed in the garage.
The flames spread from the garage to the house, burning a bonus room and a bedroom above the garage.
"We just ran out of the house," said Payne. "My mom and I were standing out here and she was crying for the dog."
Payne said he ran back inside the house and saved the dog. He said he breathed in some smoke. His mother was also given oxygen. Both are okay but the father was transported to a hospital as a precaution.
Some 20 firefighters from the King County Fire Department battled the flames.
