She had gotten off a Tri-Met bus and was attempting to cross the highway between Jennings and Boardman avenues when she was hit by a red Ford Econoline van at about 6 a.m., said Oregon State Police Lieutenant Gregg Hastings.
The victim was dragged approximately 100 feet in her wheelchair. She was transported to Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital, where she died about an hour later. Her name was not released.
The driver of the van was last seen southbound on Highway 99E. The van is believed to have right front damage.
The highway’s southbound lanes were expected to remain closed until 10 a.m.
Conditions were foggy and dark at the time of the crash, Hastings said.
Anyone with information about the accident or the driver is asked to call 800-452-7888.
