Man who killed wife in fire sues county

01:35 PM PST on Sunday, November 16, 2008

Associated Press

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Paul David Fahey Jr., convicted of murdering his wife by setting her house on fire four years ago, is suing Douglas County in federal court, claiming he received inadequate medical treatment for his own burns while in custody.

Fahey, 40, serving 30-years-to-life for the death of Brenda Iverson-Fahey, is suing for more oversight and for damages.

Fahey suffered third-degree burns over about half of his body and spent about six weeks in the Oregon Burn Center in Portland.

In the suit Fahey accuses jail officials of withholding necessary treatment and rehabilitation, leading to chronic pain, permanent disfigurement and disability and a need for more surgery.

The county has yet to file a response to the lawsuit.
