PORTLAND - An 18-year-old runner who was struck by a car while running in the Hood to Coast High School Challenge relay last Friday also suffered a stroke in addition to her crash injuries, her mother said Thursday.
According to The Oregonian, scans show Chelsee Jean Caskey has a tear in her carotid artery. The location of the tear makes surgery risky, said Arlene Green, Caskey's mother, and doctors are discussing the options they have.
Doctors didn't discover Caskey suffered a stroke until she was awake and couldn't move half her face or her left arm. The stroke is over and Caskey remains in good spirits, said her mother.
Friend have set up a fund for Caskey and her mother. Donations can be made to the Chelsee Caskey Fund at any Washington Mutual location.
