PORTLAND - A petty theft that outraged the community and wound up benefiting charity has resulted in an arrest.
Portland police say they've arrested a teenager in the theft of a wallet from a 90-year-old McDonald's customer.
Police say the 15-year-old boy was panhandling, asking for two $1 bills. When Douglas Stewart pulled out his billfold, the youth grabbed it and ran, getting $200. But he was caught on a security tape and arrested Wednesday.
The mugging described in an Oregonian story outraged readers, who pitched in.
Stewart got his $200 back, and he and his wife said they would donate the money they got beyond that to charity.
