Poll says McCain to take Idaho in Nov.

01:33 PM PDT on Saturday, September 20, 2008

BOISE - Barack Obama trails John McCain by 39 percentage points in the first Rasmussen telephone survey of Idaho voters.

Rasmussen Reports currently gives McCain a 99. 9 percent chance of winning Idaho’s four electoral college votes in November.

A poll conducted earlier this month showed McCain leading Obama 68 percent to 29 percent among Idaho’s registered voters.

That’s right in line with the 2004 result, when George W. Bush beat John Kerry 68 percent to 30 percent.

McCain has the support of 96 percent of the state's republicans and 18 percent of democrats.

Obama is backed by 77 percent of Idaho democrats and 3 percent of GOP voters.

Idaho has been won by the GOP presidential candidate in every election since 1964.
