IDAHO CITY - Crews are battling a wildfire that ignited east of Boise and so far has burned about 11/2-square miles of rangeland.

Fire officials say the now 1,000-acre blaze in the Blacks Creek Road area started Monday afternoon. Federal officials say about 50 firefighters are on the scene in hopes of containing the blaze later in the day.

Bureau of Land Management fire crews believe a firework was the cause of the fire. Witnesses say three homes were in immediate danger.

Firefighters used three bulldozers and three fire engines to surround the blaze before it could spread.
Crews are still on scene mopping up hot spots and plan to be there most of the day.

Fire managers are also getting crews positioned in advance of fires that could start Tuesday as dry lightning and storms get ready to move across Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
