SEATTLE -- Some local bars opened up extra early on Thursday morning, hoping to draw huge crowds for the USA-Germany World Cup match.

Soccer fans started arriving at The George and Dragon Pub around 6:30 a.m. to watch the morning game. Within an hour, the pub was packed with people.

Across the city, local bars and restaurants are hosting World Cup watch parties this month. Several places said the games have significantly boosted sales.

The George and Dragon Pub expected 200 to 300 people Thursday. Lines were reported at other bars, including The Market Arms in Ballard and Atlantic Crossing in Roosevelt.

Some soccer fans planned to go to work after the game while others took the day off.
