PORTLAND – Portland Mayor Charlie Hales and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn are putting it all on the line for the much anticipated Western Conference Semifinals between the Portland Timbers and the Seattle Sounders.
Besides the bragging rights, the winning mayor gets to gloat as his northwest rival dons the scarf of the opposing team. That mayor will also get to kick back and sip on a case of microbrew made in the city of the losing team, courtesy of that city's mayor.

“This is a great competition,” a confident Hales said Friday. “If it’s a question of which is the better squad on the pitch. I like our chances. If it’s a question of which is the most dominant fan section. I love our chances. RCTID!”
The MLS Western Conference Semifinals kick off Saturday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Game two of the semis between the two teams is Thursday at Jeld-Wen. The team that scores the most goals in aggregate advances to the next round in the playoffs.
